How was that Walking Tour?

It was terrific! Thanks for asking.

Roughly 30 people showed up on May 5, 2013 – a beautiful, hot sunny day – to listen to Mr. Gall speak about the origins of the “dimension stones” used in the construction of various buildings and monuments in downtown Ottawa. The gathering spot was on Parliament Hill where we learned that Caledonia Red granite from Quebec was used to make the Centennial Flame monument in 1967. The granite is a feldspar and quartz combination so it sparkles somewhat in the sunlight. Happily, what was intended to be a temporary monument is still there for all to see today.
